A few tips when buying gel fuel:
Never buy from a company that has not been blending it for at least 3 years.
Always Ask how much carbon monoxide is emitted. If the company says none, they are
lying to you or have not tested. It should read below 4 Parts Per Million. We have tested every competitors gel and everyone is over 4 - except Sunjel and our neighbor and competitor Crackling Flames. If you want to verify what each company tells you, let us know and we will confirm or deny what they tell you.
Never buy Gel Fuel from a company that sells other product lines, Such as Furniture or Clothing. They are not dedicated lifelong to providing a good clean safe product. They are in it for financial reasons. Here at the Sunjel Company we plan to maintain the integrity of our Sunjel for many years by only producing or distributing products somehow related to fireplace, decor or accessories. We are committed to making a beautiful and safe Gel Fuel.
Never buy from a company that states their gel is OSHA or EPA certified. That is smoke and mirrors to confuse the public. OSHA is safety in the workplace and has nothing to do with Air Quality with Fireplaces. And The EPA doesn't monitor Air Quality of Fireplaces in the home. These are cheap selling tactics to try to get your business.
Never buy from a Company that doesn't have a brand name. If they call it Fireplace Gel Fuel, you never know what you will get. They do that on purpose to ship to you whatever they can find in stock and at the lowest price.
There are gel fuels on the market that are in bottles that are NOT for unvented use. Make sure you are buying a Gel Fuel for UN = VENTED Use.
